I've had my funds stolen from me twice.
The second time it happened it was due to a hack. I was using a CEX and wasn't careful enough to my personal security.
Simple password, no 2FA and so on.
I guess you live and you learn.
The first time it happened it was because the big guy screwed over the little guy and got away with it.
I was using a well-known platform (extremely well-known, you probably either use it or seen the ads) that combines stocks, crypto, commodities and even foreign currencies.
I was trading CHF, the Swiss Franc, and at some point in the early days of 2015, CHF wasn't doing so well so the Bank of Switzerland artificially kept it pegged to the EURO.
One day, the peg was removed and the CHF collapsed briefly, which means two things happened.
First, my stop loss, which I had set, didn't trigger.
Second, my investment became worth zero, and then minus zero, which means my account was emptied completely.
This means I lost everything in that account, including BTC and Tesla stock. This was 2015, remember.
Today I retrieved my account, which is empty, and which I hadn't logged in to in nine years.
I even found the forum where other little guys like myself and I discussed what happened but, as you can imagine, nothing could be done then, and even less can be done now.
I don't think I'm going to use the account again.
In an ideal world, I'd very much like to meet the CEO of this company, it's the same CEO since 2007, and punch him very hard in the face. More than once.
But I can't do that. So I guess I'll just stay away.
Sorry, rant over. Normal service will be resumed shortly.
