After watching Rush Hour 2, I remember reading an article about Chris Tucker's salary.

Tucker, who plays detective James Carter in the Rush Hour franchise, negotiated a $20m salary for Rush Hour 2 and a $25m salary for Rush Hour 3 following the success of the first film.

This made him one of the highest-paid actors at the time.

These days, $20 million is what Hollywood actors make in a month. And that's probably a bad month, too.

Before the advent of Netflix, there was a black-on-white way of measuring an actor's bankability. You either flop at the box office of you don't. But Netflix and Prime and Apple TV and other streaming services spend a fortune producing content.

They generally operate in debt and don't care whether the movie makes money or not, they just want more subscribers to brag about during earnings call.

For that reason, any actor you can think of probably has a nine-figure net worth these days.

I was recently forced (by YouTube) to disable Brave's adblock feature, which means I'm now subject to YouTube ads (again). It's a bugger. But it gave me the opportunity to watch a new 15-second ad for a coffee brand starring Brad Pitt.

The ad starts with Brad Pitt walking across a room. It happens so fast you're not even sure it's actually him. Then the voiceover, done by somebody who's not Brad Pitt, promotes an espresso machine (no, not Nespresso).

At which point the cameras goes back to Brad Pitt, who takes a sip of coffee and says 'Perfetto', in Italian.

The ad I saw is a cropped version (edited to fit right before, after or during a YouTube video) of a longer one-minute commercial, which was filmed in Italy.

Brad Pitt has a long-standing partnership with this brand.

The first ad aired during the Super Bowl a few years ago. And it cost $10 million.

This one reportedly cost a hair over $9 million, most of which went to Brad Pitt.

$7 million for one line, 'Perfetto'.
