Crypto companies keep going bust, wallets get hacked, the US economy is in tatters, the SEC is perpetually trying to kill crypto. Yes. All these things are true.
But, and it's a huge but, part of the reason why the NFT craze died down is we tried too hard, we tried to oversell NFTs.
The technology behind NFT is beneficial, and it can be used to provide added value.
And yet while on the one hand we were praising the importance of blockchain technology to secure ownership over our assets, on the other hand we were using expensive jpeg to prove our point.
That's like saying, "look we've found a new way to preserve healthy food, so here's some deep-fried donuts to prove it".
Sorry, bad example, but you get the gist.
I think perhaps it might be a good time to adjust our aim and tell it how it is. NFTs are fun. At least for now.
I apologise for the long preamble but it served as an appetizer for the main course, which is a quirky app I recently discovered at this year's TMRW Conference in Belgrade.
The company is called Holoframe and what they do is provide a unique way to showcase your NFTs by using AR (Augmented Reality).
In short, you can use your phone (or a similar device) to project your favourite NFT, inside a frame you can choose and customise, on any surface.
It's like hanging a picture on a wall or putting a frame on a shelf - but it's digital. And it's free.
Why not.
