My 2022 will begin in the same place my 2021 ended. This is important to me because where I am - and have been for the past 12 hours - plays a key part in my life.
I got tired of where I was. Got fed up with my country. So I just left. When I left, late 2021, crypto was booming and everyone felt like we were going to be millionaires by the end of 2022.
It went the other way.
2022 was a s**tshow for a variety of reasons.
The highs of 2021 were too, well, high. And so inevitably, whatever goes up must come down and 2022 was always going to be tougher.
It was worse than we all thought, as we all know by now, but I believe - and please don't punch me - that what happened in 2022 will be seen as a good thing in the long run because, quoting Michael Saylor, "the [crypto] market needs to grow up".
I didn't lose any money in the FTX fiasco, but I did lose about $98 in the Terra Luna disaster and about $170 in BlockFi.
I learnt my lesson, the hard way like most people, and all my crypto is now held in wallets.
I also decided to gradually convert whatever I have into BTC.
All the altcoins, all the s**tcoins, all the memecoins, even ETH. All of it.
This is a very slow process, as you can imagine, but I recall writing a story about my crypto portfolio in July 2022.
Back then, BTC accounted for about 94 percent of my portfolio.
It is now at 96 percent. And I plan to bring it up to 97 percent by the end of the year.
I also went back to buying watches. Because I've realised that putting all my money in one crypto basket doesn't make much sense.
I also plan to have a lot of craft beer in 2023. But that's nothing new.
Merry Christmas, crypto peeps.
