RPA on Bitcoin Cash: A Game-Changer for Financial Privacy

By alberdioni8406 | The BCH Observer | 13 Mar 2025

The developments on Bitcoin Cash never cease to amaze me, and knowing the enthusiasm of many devs working on the network to make it secure, private and highly appreciable, it certainly continues to reach milestones.

The team behind the popular and famous non custodial wallet, ElectronCash presented a prototype in 2021, now in beta, that allows Bitcoin Cash addresses to be 'masked' when making a payment on the network, which could be sending money, making donations, or even investments. This technology might not seem very impactful, but I'm sure it's a big step forward in the fight for privacy on the Bitcoin Cash network.

A thread on the BitcoinBCHcom X page about RPA

Understanding Reusable Payment Addresses (RPA) on Bitcoin Cash

RPA, as the subtitle already mentions, stands for reusable payment addresses and is already being used, for example, in private cryptocurrencies such as Monero. It allows people who value their privacy and don't like to be tracked—whether by hackers, the government, or analytics companies—to have peace of mind when making a payment on the network while remaining anonymous. After all, everyone has the right to their privacy when using their funds.

This technology is, for now, only available on the ElectronCash wallet in the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem. It allows that every time someone uses the Bitcoin Cash network to make payments, the public key generates a new receiver address. This means that whenever a user makes some kind of payment using RPA, the card address will be different.

This will allow both the receiver and sender to do their transactions privately, with no one knowing what the other person has stored in their wallet. It might seem trivial, but there are many people who like to interact on the Bitcoin Cash network and value their privacy. Also, there are lots of people who like to snoop around in other people's finances, which, in a way, is uncomfortable for those who do not like this intrusion.

There is no way for the recipient or even anyone else to realize how much that wallet which made the payment contains. It will be anonymous, as in addition to the place constantly changing and reusing another one, the key of the wallet is also shuffled, not allowing anyone, good intentioned or not, know how much the wallet holds.

The recipient using RPA will use the technology to change the public key to a payable card address, and the sender who use the address to send the Payment will make it anonymously, without compromising their privacy. Each time the address receive or the sender pays the card address will change not allowing anyone to track it

A step towards greater privacy on the BCH network

Privacy in the Bitcoin Cash is already being enhanced by cashfusion and with the development of reusable payment addresses (RPA) it is further improved. In recent times, privacy is highly contested in various parts of the globe. Being tracked by hackers or government agencies, this often violates men basic right by intruding on other people's affairs without permission.

A lot of the privacy that men has today is compromised and the responsible for it, are companies working for the state, telecommunications and appliance companies, also government intelligence services, blockchain analytics firms that have been doing this for years. This institutions track users privacy and monitor all the aspects which are part of their citizens.

The thing is that many of us don't care about privacy or make light of it, but one day realize that they will be accountable when discover that all their private movements have been violently monitored that they are practically on 'public auction' and there's no way to defend themselves!

The Importance of Privacy

Reusable payment addresses (RPA) along with Cashfusion, increase privacy on the Bitcoin Cash. It allows that a considerable number of interested people, which are privacy motivated, actively participate on it to make their payments anonymously without being tracked. Using RPA, people don't need to demonstrate their wallet amount when doing transactions in the Bitcoin Cash chain. For now, the technology is only available in the ElectronCash wallet and soon could expand to others Bitcoin Cash wallets.

Why Privacy Matters: Real-World Scenarios

Imagine this scenario;

You live with your family, your wife and kids, and all the experience is private which means, all what you do, how you do, or why you do things are up to you.

Now, imagine another scenario;

Everything you and your family do, how you do and why is of public domain! Would that situation be convenient or nice to you and family? Of course not. The user have the right to allow what of their life should be exposed or not to protect their privacy and keep it secure. It's here when people start to realize how important privacy is and how much matters.

Using this both scenarios, it's possible to realize how important is to keep users transactions private and only shows what they want to. Bitcoin Cash privacy is crucial to keep people who value it using the chain and enjoy at same time. Bitcoin Cash is always improving for good and turn the digital cash accessible to all. Privacy matters on Bitcoin Cash and RPA helps to enhance it!
