The 80's were arguably the glory days of slasher horror movies, and for fans new and old of that era's glorious carnival of gore, the following are a small handful of fantastic indie game recommendations that allow players to relive the feel and flavor of the golden-age of horror like never before.
Slayaway Camp
An isometric puzzle game that borrows heavily from the 80's horror movie scene, Slayaway Camp, places you in the position of a variety of slasher style killers, from the masked "Skullface" (who is clearly inspired by Jason Voorhees of the Friday the 13th movie franchise) through to a Pennywise-like killer-clown. As you slide your way around various horror-movie themed scenarios, solving puzzles, and avoiding obstacles, in attempt to deliver the killing blow to unsuspecting camp residents, unwary police officers, and anybody who should happen to be unfortunate enough to find themselves in your path. Slayaway camp allows you to work your way through a variety of "movies", each represented by its own VHS cassette tape, unlocking new killers and death-moves as you progress. yet while the game definitely features some classic 80's over-the-top gore, the cartoony colorful cuboid graphics of the game make Slayaway Camp overall a fairly light-hearted and humorous affair. And an excellent homage to the 80's slasher horror movie scene...

Party Hard
Another game that places you in the role of a masked 80's style slasher horror movie style killer is "Party Hard". And if you're a fan of pixel-art I defy you not to love this game - as it features some of the nicest pixel-art I've ever seen. Disgruntled by the cities noisy residents, and in need of some peace and sleep, you as the Party Hard killer set out to rid the world of the human-trash that inhabits the game's various colorful scenarios. From nightclubs to cruise-ships you lurk in the shadows waiting to pick off revelers one-by-one, in this stealthy murder-fest, attempting to avoid detection as you dispose of the bodies of your prey until you've massacred every last one of them. Get caught with blood on your hands though and the police, or worse still, the FBI, will be hot on your tail ready to throw you in the slammer. Of the three games on this list this is probably my personal favorite overall. With the cohesive film-noir story tying the savage events of the game together beautifully to create one of the best and most enjoyable (in my opinion) 80's themed slasher horror movie games ever made...

Lakeview Cabin Collection
Of the three games on this list, Lakeview Cabin Collection is the one I have the least to say about, mainly because I only grabbed a copy of this the other day, and I'm still working my way through it. Much like Slayaway Camp you work your way through a series of 80's horror movie themed video tapes, only this time you're not the killer, but the "victims". The game itself is a somewhat vague 2D pixel-art puzzle game, with very little hand-holding, and nothing in the way of a tutorial, meaning that from the start you'll need to figure out for yourself exactly what it is you're supposed to be doing, as you attempt to avoid being killed-off, and far more commonly, coming to a gruesome end at your own hands. If you've ever watched a horror-movie and mocked the nonsensical actions of the gormless high-schoolers as they all but offer themselves up on a platter through their own foolishness, Lakeview Cabin Collection will have you stupefied by your own incompetence, with near certain death coming to you from every angle, and from almost every action (or lack thereof). And for a 2D pixel-art game, there's a real sense of dark tension to the Lakeview Cabin Collection. But also a lot of laughs to be had in this somewhat strange enigma of an 80's slasher horror themed game - worth a play if you like your games magnificently "offbeat"...
