General News:

• The State of the BAT 2023 draft post is in review. It'll be published very soon, probably next week.
• A newly hired employee is taking over THEMIS from Gonçalo Pestana (Research Team) who resigned, so THEMIS is being worked on again.
• Update on Playlist Android with special guest Anthony Keane, Product Manager from the Mobile Team - Brave Playlist is already out on iOS and coming soon on Android. It is aimed for a March 2023 official release and for it to arrive in Nightly in the next few weeks. Note: Nightly is a publicly available pre-Beta build of Brave.
• The playlist feature allows users to bookmark video and audio content (YouTube, Twitch, Soundcloud, etc...) they come across on internet and save it for later. Once added, the user can watch or listen to this content anytime they'd like, even offline!

• The team is working on the possibility for creators to share their playlists with their followers.
• They want to bring web3 elements into playlist.
• On Playlist iOS, YouTube videos are limited to 480p. The team has gotten it higher, up to 4K on iPad. They're looking into how to change the quality on other devices.

Q&A on other mobile features with Anthony

• Custom backgrounds will be implemented for mobile, but there is no timeline yet.
• iPhone users can't access flags and it won't be possible in the future because Brave iOS is primarily based on Firefox so it works differently from Desktop and Android (Chromium based).
• Extensions & add-ons on mobile: The team wants to bring them in, but there is no timeline. This is mainly because some extensions are breaking the app.
• Adding favorite sites manually along with top visited sites on to Android from other user devices. They're working on it and plan to get sync fully working across Android, desktop & iOS.
• Importing bookmarks: It's already in iOS, but doesn't always work properly. It's hard to implement because other big browser apps doesn't allow for the export of bookmarks. They're working on a way to export them from desktop to mobile.
• Brave Translate: It's out on Android already, but it's a bigger job to implement on iOS. It will arrive at a future date.
• Tab groups on iOS: This will arrive in the future, but currently there is no timeline.
• Copy clean link: They're looking into the possibility on mobile.

BAT Community  

• GetBased (web3 messaging app) passes are being sent out slowly to community members.
• See the latest 📢announcements from Nikki B. in the Discord.
• A Chess thread has been opened in the BAT Brigade Discord server for anyone interested in chess. Members are encouraged to talk about chess or play chess with other community member on https://chess.com/, an official Brave partner (https://brave.com/chess-partnership/). If enough people show interest, then we can host a tournament.
• The BAT Brigade continues to show growth with 31,000+ members.

BAT Ambassadors

• Some of the Ambassadors are going to help with Brave Wallet testing.
• Official https://brave.com/ videos will be dubbed by Ambassadors into other languages, starting with Spanish.
• Ambassador led in person meetups are expected to be occurring throughout the year.

Upcoming Events:

• BAT Brigade Weekly Trivia will be this Friday January 20, 2023 at 12:00 pm ET. The event occurs in the Event section of the BAT Brigade Discord server. Participants can win sBAT for correctly answering question. There is also often some BAT given out to community members just for participating.
• BAT Community Twitter Space with DeFi Land this Friday, January 20, 2023 at 1:00 PM. DeFi Land is a multi-chain agriculture-simulation game created to gamify Decentralized Finance. The Space will be at: https://twitter.com/i/spaces/1kvJpmVLMEaxE.
