I've created a number of images and used them to design coats of arms, one of which I want to use as a banner image on my own Website. (The site has a sort of Norse Mythology feel to it, with the addition of halberd-wielding demons.) However, having got to the point of having a number of favourites, it was only after adding the Latin mottoes that I was able to decide which one I like the most. Why is it so difficult to decide on something one wants most for oneself instead of for a client/customer?
Anyway, below is what I've chosen to put in a block in a sidebar on the "About" page:

I do think it's maybe too busy with all those colours and lots of text (particularly considering it'll likely display with a much smaller size), but it's got everything I want it to contain quite nicely fitted in. With the other options I had, I struggled to find place to put everything. It's not perfect, nor what I had in mind, but it'll serve well enough. (Having not ever learned Latin, I'm also not sure that the translations are entirely accurate, but I'm willing to bet the average person won't be able to tell if they aren't. Is "stipendum" a better word to use than "lucre" or "sine" better than "non"? Is that a moot point? I don't know. I'm hoping no one else who sees my images will, either. Having borrowed the "sine lucre" bit from Discworld's Assassin's Guild, I'm hoping the late and great Sir Terry Pratchett knew if that was the right choice of words.)
