Katherine Johnson passed away at the age of 101. She calculated, by hand, orbits and trajectories of multiple Apollo mission, including that of Apollo 11. It has been one of the first women working for NASA, because of her incredible talent in physics and mathematics. Here the tweet of NASA

Of African-Americans origins, she started working at the beginning of 50s at NASA (NACA, at that time) but until 1958 she worked in a separately section, due to women social conditions and racism of the time. Very brilliant, she was the first women to write a book about astronomical math in 1962 and calculated, by hand (!!!) the trajectory and the orbit of many Apollo mission, including Apollo 11. She retired in 1986.

Her life is told in the “Hidden figures” film and in 2015 she got the Medal of Freedom, the highest honor in USA

Here a VIDEO TRIBUTE

Thank you Katherine. Per aspera ad astra
