The valley is over 4 km long and lies at an altitude of about 1625-1900 m above sea level. The place offers a stunning view of the surrounding nature and the nearby rocky peaks.

On the northern side, you can see Świnica and Mały Kozi Wierch, and on the southern side, Niżnia Liptowski Kostur, Wyżni Liptowski Kostur and Szpiglasowy Wierch.

Where did the name of the valley of 5 ponds come from
Skąd nazwa dolina 5 stawów
Because this beautiful corner of the Polish mountains consists of just five ponds. The first one, called Przedni Staw, is located closest to the eastern end of the valley. Mały Staw is a shallow and small lake with an area of 0.18 ha and a depth of about 2 m.
Ponieważ ten przepiękny zakątek polskich gór składa się właśnie pięć stawów. Pierwszy zwany Przedni Staw położony jest najbliżej wschodniego krańca Doliny. Mały Staw to płytkie i niewielkie jeziorko o powierzchni 0,18 ha i głębokości około 2 m.
Another one is Wielki Staw - it is the largest lake in the 5 Ponds Valley and the second largest lake in the Polish Tatras, its depth reaches 80 m. The next is Czarny Staw with an area of 12.7 ha and a depth of over 50 m. Zadni Pond which is located on the upper floor, in Dolinka Pod Kotłem. It covers an area of 6.5 ha and a depth of 31.6 m.
Kolejny to Wielki Staw - to z kolei największe jezioro w Dolinie 5 Stawów i drugie co do wielkości jezioro w polskich Tatrach, jego głębokość dochodzi do 80 m. Następny jest Czarny Staw o powierzchni 12,7 ha i głębokości ponad 50 m. A na końcu Zadni Staw który znajduje się w górnym piętrze, w Dolince Pod Kotłem. Jego powierzchnia wynosi 6,5 ha, a głębokość 31,6 m.
