War is always a tragedy, and that is why people make up romanticism and heroism to make it tolerable. War is a dish best served ugly and disgusting, and this show dose that to an extend. However, we desire excitement and thrill, this show perform in that front brilliantly as well.
86 is one of the best yet sad newly made anime built around the universal problems of "war", "destruction", and of course "racism".
What makes this anime unique is the well-made and exceptional structure around the exaggerated issue of "racism" that portrays a remarkable and interesting plot.
Here we see that the world is facing a devastating war that intelligent robots have imposed on mankind (well, so far is an overrated fiction, but wait, it gets better).
Racism in The Flesh
Despite the war and bloodshed, the people of the country at war with these bloodthirsty robots are living their normal and daily lives inside the borders safely and happily without any worries.
They go shopping, and partying without care in the world. How is such a thing possible? Yes! They are racists who have forced an oppressed a race named “86” to fight in their name outside the borders.
These silver-haired racists call the people of race 86 "pigs" and consider them worthless and less than human. The 86th must participate in a crazy war and if they can spend three years like this without dying, they can apply for citizenship and live within the borders as well.
It Tells the story of some of these young children who live in a camp in hardship and each day some of them are killed.
Their hero is a young boy with the alias of “Reaper the angel of death” with his peers because he is a great fighter and can mysteriously hear the voice of the robotic enemy in his head. Having lost his brother in this war, he wants to defend his comrades at any cost and keep them safe in this unequal battle.
Unusual Romance Make It Worth Watching
But this is not the whole story, here comes romance as well. Each 86th battalion has a "silver-haired" commander. But this commander, who is considered a superior race does not step into the war, but guides and directs the "pigs" from afar.
In the meantime, the zealous youths of this battalion are faced with an unusual silver-haired commander, a girl who is not ready to accept these horrible and inhuman laws.
A brave young woman who wants to fight alongside her comrades and does all she can to save them.
They only have the right to hear each other's voices, but this relationship brings their hearts closer to each other and brings a light of hope amid death, pain, and despair.
It is safe to say, war is always a tragedy, and that is why people make up romanticism and heroism to make it tolerable. War is a dish best served ugly and disgusting, and this show dose that to an extend. However, we desire excitement and thrill, this show perform in that front brilliantly as well.
