I received a message on Reddit yesterday evening from the user 'u/RedditCollectibles' announcing that I was eligible for a new free Collectible Avatar. I thought this was a bit odd as the latest few free NFT offerings from Reddit had usually been announced via an in-app or on-page announcement, and can be navigated to by opening the NFT store on the Reddit app. I didn't see this new collection listed in the app, so I did a bit of research to make sure this wasn't a scam.
Turns out, it's legit! Apparently, Reddit is offering a free NFT from this new collection to users who attempted to interact with the Gen3 launch back on April 11th. I don't personally remember specifically going to the NFT store on that day, but I guess I must have as I was one of the users identified as eligible!
It looks like this NFT series was actually announced about two weeks ago; during my search I found an Admin post on 'r/CollectibleAvatars' from 14 days ago that went into more details about why this NFT series was being offered to specific users. (The original message we received in our inboxes didn't go into much detail, which led a lot of folks to wonder if it was a scam or not.)
Ironically, according to users on Reddit, this NFT launch has also not gone off without it's own problems: apparently the mint numbering system was faulty in the beginning, and started issuing NFTs at around #2500 - so NFT collectors who like to prioritize grabbing lower numbered mints were rather disappointed.
So check your Reddit messages in-app today and see if you've also qualified! There are several designs to choose from.
