The start of the trek is only about 150 kilometers from Kathmandu. You might think that would take you maybe three to four hours by bus. However in Nepal everything is a bit slower. Including breaks those 150 kilometers took us 10 hours. So you really need a full day to arrive at the start of the trek.

Kathmandu in the dust
We could have spend more time in Kathmandu, as the city is really interesting and different, but it was also good to get out of it and breath the fresh air.

Houses destroyed by the earthquake in 2015 and partially restored
On our way out of Kathmandu we could still see some houses that were damaged by the earthquake in 2015. It seems some houses are only partially restored and will probably never be fixed completely.

The Himalaya
Not long after leaving Kathmandu behind we could see the fist high mountains of the Himalaya. It was really impressive, because you could already judge how high those mountains are by looking into the deep valley to your feet.

The valley to our feet
In the beginning the drive was exciting, everything was new. However after a few hours the roads got smaller and smaller, bumpier and bumpier and we had enough of sitting in the bus. We wanted to start our trek.

Our first accommodation
Not long before it got dark we arrived at our first accommodation and prepared everything for the next day.
