Bitcoin could be stopped. People say it is impossible. It would require the power of an entire government, assuming Bitcoin has no flaws. In this hypothetical, all governments see Bitcoin as a threat to their currency, as people can use cryptocurrency to avoid taxes. This is what governments would do.
All government would come together to agree that bitcoin lets people void their currency. The majority of countries then come together and mandate that it would be illegal to own any form of bitcoin or contribute to the bitcoin network. Each government would send a request to the Bitcoin network. This would return the IP of the node. If the government got the IP of a node, they could go to each internet company and get each user's details (Address/location) where they would cut off the internet to each node. The government would also ban Tor nodes and would perform the same process for the Tor network to prevent Bitcoin miners/ledgers from running their nodes through Tor to hide their real location.
If, for some reason, internet companies could not cut off the internet of nodes the goverment would fine each person who was running a Bitcoin node (Also tor nodes) a high amount everyday for each day a node is being run at their location. This would possibly stamp out Bitcoin in the vast majority of contries. The issue is that some contries may not agree with the rest and allow Bitcoin. The sudden rush of miners into the smaller contries that refused to comply could make the contry struggle under the weight of energy and new accomidation of residants. Despite this, the contries that banned bitcoin would not care as much since bitcoin would no longer be used within their contry. The cost of preventing bitcoin would be much lower than the taxes and fines that the goverment received. If the goverments for the ban of bitcoin still were not satisfied with the smaller contries still running the bitcoin network, the goverments could cut off internet and deals with the contries until they follow the same ideology as the rest do.
