tl;dr: It’s always been about networks.
According to the Quantum Revelation: A Radical Synthesis of Science and Spirituality , my thought that the quantum world and the spiritual world have some degree of interconnectedness isn’t so crazy after all.
I am far from an expert about the world of quantum mechanics, or as Levy calls it non-mechanics, because it’s more spiritual than mechanical, but I’ve gleaned a few things so far.
According to quantum theory, the physical world we observe is really just a thin veneer or reality that is sitting on top of a hyper-connected quantum field where everything is interrelated to everything. Not only is everything related to everything, but the reality of the world changes on a second by second basis in because of the act of observation on our part.
This is what makes us co-creators, in real-time, of the universe.
My copy of the book is already all marked up and I have two more books coming on the topic, so I’m like an excited novice at the moment, but this is all background to another article I read recently by Kathleen Wallace, entitled “You are a network.”
Her post argues that we should stop thinking of ourselves as one unit, but rather as an interconnected series of identities that are constantly evolving based on changing circumstances.
This image explains her concept relatively well.
So, it stands to reason that Wallace’s argument is very similar, at a lower level of abstraction, to the way that the quantum world workds.
As one piece of our identity changes, say as we move cities, get married, have a kid, change jobs, or change diets, that impact has a ripple effect across our entire “network” of identity, changing who we are now from who we were before.
There’s a “complex interrelatedness” in the different versions of ourselves.
Meanwhile, the same thing is happening as we expand our scope and see (or rather don’t necessarily see) that there’s a complex interrelatedness between ourselves and every other entity on the planet, whether animate or inanimate, all of which is taking place through the invisible quantum field.
When we observe the world in some way, say watching a bird fly through the sky, the relationship we have with the bird is changed, and even perhaps “linked” (i.e. “entanglement”) forever, creating a type of “spiritual” bond between us and the bird, in which we realize that we are all part of the One whole world, networked through a quantum field.
Yeah, it’s pretty crazy mind-bending stuff and I’m sure that I’m missing some points, but the key takeaway, which applies to the way we look at ourselves, the way we look at matter, and the way we look at the universe is that Networks are the default state of the world.
Nothing acts independently of anything else.
There’s obviously a crypto angle here, which is just bringing the complex interrelatedness of our economic lives and mutual co-dependency to the forefront, but I’ll save that for another time.
