Improving Publish0x. My thoughts and suggestions.

Improving Publish0x. My thoughts and suggestions.

Main Page

Publish0x has been one of the better publishing platforms I've seen out there. I'll like to take this chance to put forward some suggestions on how this platform can move forward, grow in readership as well as attract more writers.

Hope you like it.

The designs below are based on my consideration and survey of other publishing platforms, as well as my own thoughts.

New additional features:

Published and Read duration

1) Showing article published date. In this fast paced cryptocurrency world, news and updates change at a very fast pace. It will be helpful for the reader to see the article's published date, to be sure they are reading the latest news.

2) Displaying read duration. Fun fact: our attention span is getting shorter and shorter. Knowing how long this article will take to read based on average reading speeds will help us decide : leave this article for later, or a quick read on our way to work.

insert signature

3) Ability to insert pre-defined signatures into each article. This is a quality of life improvement which I'm sure a lot of writers will appreciate. Have a long list of outbound links or referrals? Put it in your signature and insert it at the end of your article. How about a poignant phrase at the end of your slam poetry piece? Now you can put it in easily.

4) Menu widget changes

I've added in a language preferences up top. This will allow visitors to peruse the site in a language they prefer.

In addition, I've put in notifications as a widget on top of the user icon. Users can immediately see if they have notifications ( and how many ) by looking at their user icon.

Considerations/Suggestions:

Publish0x, from my observations, seems to almost exclusively be aimed at cryptocurrency enthusiasts. It might surprise some of you to know that there are actually other categories in Publish0x.

Attracting more readers and writers

So how might Publish0x attract a greater diversity of readers and writers beyond just the cryptocurrency space? Having greater diversity means more footfall to the site, which means a greater success for the platform.

This consideration has influenced a lot of my design choices. Perhaps the first visible change is the lack of the familiar crypto links at the top of the site  I've removed that to de-emphasize that this is solely a publishing platform about cryptocurrencies. As mentioned above and elaborated further down, I would advocate surfacing non-crypto topics to the front page. What I have done, however, is to preserve the News category. Shifted that one up to the main menu.

Different Themes

I've opted to include a theme toggle switch in the user profile widget up top.

I got inspired by the UK Financial Times, which has its publications in salmon pink. Or we can have a paper yellow. Whichever the reader prefers for a more soothing read.

Not showing only crypto news

By showing a more diverse range of topics, visitors to the site will be able to see the site for what it is; a publishing site that doesn't only cater to the cryptocurrency crowd. Now, there will of course be the cryptocurrency hardcore readers/writers who would like the platform to remain as it was. For them, there's the New from your network category, so they can remain steeped in the world of blockchain.

For others, having a diverse mix of topics allows new visitors to 'stumble' upon a cryptocurrency article, which will serve to educate more people on blockchains and it's many benefits. Everybody wins!

Hold writing contests for other topics

To attract and retain a greater diversity of writers, there should be some incentives for them too. Writing contests are a good way to do just that. Give them prizes; some DAI will be just the thing to nudge them towards the world of defi ( greater adoption! ).
How about 15 mins of fame by giving them a highlight on the platform's twitter feed?

Maybe even a meet-a-crypto-buddy writer week, where writers from other topics can mingle and collaborate with cryptocurrency writers to brainstorm how each world can crossover into the other.

Possibilities abound.

Tagging Writing Contests.

Another proposal related to Writing Contests. Publish0X can name a specific topic, and writers can write on it. They can then tag other writers to write a counterpoint to the previous writer's article, thereby setting up a debate on a specific topic. End of the day, there can be a judge's panel to decide on the outcome of the debate.

Swapping payouts to a single currency

Having the ability to convert all payouts to a single currency would be another quality of life improvement. Even though the team has taken pains to partner with only the best, there might be people who would like to consolidate their earnings into a single currency. I think this can be something that helps everyone.

Ability to copy and paste images INTO a post.

Seriously.. this would be a BIG quality of life improvement!

PIP ( Publish0x Improvement Proposal )

This is something that might be half baked, and of course I think it might be more up the alley of the creators of the platform to fully flesh out. But I got inspired by Synthetix's Improvement Proposals.

Why not have something like that? ( in fact if you think about it, this particular article can be the FIRST PIP ever! ).

Users of the platform can submit PIPs to be voted upon. They can get rewarded if their PIPs go through for implementation by the developers. Everyone gets a stake in the development of this platform, which makes them feel like they really belong here, thereby increasing the 'stickiness' of the platform ( more devoted users ).

Sponsors love to see adoption numbers of a platform. When they see high, consistent and recurring user numbers, they will be more inclined to come forward and put up more incentives for everyone. And it doesn't have to be just sponsors from the cryptocurrency world. I wouldn't mind google play store credits, or amazon vouchers, for example.

In closing, I hope these suggestions will attract the attention of the developers.

Thank you very much :)
