Russia Confirms Over 230,000 Cases of Covid-19: Reporting 10,899 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus in the last 24 hours, Russia has entered its tenth consecutive day with over 10,000 new daily infections. As of now, Russia has a total of over 232,000 confirmed cases of the virus, making it the highest toll in the world after the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Despite the high number of cases, Russia's death toll currently stands at 2,116, and government officials say that the nation's mass testing program is responsible for lowering mortality rates, but believe that the actual death toll is far higher than the recorded 2,116.

Though Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the Covid-19 outbreak is far from over and the "danger remains", he eased the nation's lockdown, permitting factory and construction workers to return to work on Tuesday, but gave regions to set their own restrictions depending on local conditions.

Currently, the capital city of Moscow is at the epicenter of Russia's coronavirus outbreak, accounting for over half of Russia's total cases and over half of the death toll. Last week, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin extended the city's lockdown until at least May 31st, 2020. Face masks and gloves must be worn in all shops and on public transportation including on the subway, bus, and tram. Residents cannot leave home unless they are shopping for essential goods, commuting to work, or walking their dogs.

The information is accurate as of 11:55 local time on May 12th, 2020 in Vancouver, BC, though the total number of Covid-19 cases in Russia may soon overtake that of the United Kingdom.
