Effective Tuesday October 6th, 2020, all bars will be temporarily shut down in the French capital city of Paris for at least two weeks as Covid-19 coronavirus infections increase once again and the city's coronavirus alert level is raised to maximum. Restaurants will also have to place new sanitary arrangements and close down by 22:00 local time while university and college lecture halls must not exceed 50% capacity. The office of Prime Minister Jean Castex announced that full details regarding the new restrictions will be made available on Monday. The closures come about a week after the city of Marseille closed bars and restaurants last week.
The maximum coronavirus alert level in France comes into force when infections in a city or locality exceeds 250 per 100,000 people and at least 30% of intensive care unit beds are reserved for Covid-19 patients. On Sunday, October 4th, 2020, France reported a total of 12,565 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus.
