Kenya Bans Single-Use Plastics from National Parks, Beaches, and Forests

Coinciding with World Environment Day, Kenyan authorities have banned all single-use plastics such as water bottles, disposable cutlery, plastic bags, and straws from national parks, beaches, forests, and protected regions. The new ban comes three years after the nation initiated one of the world's strictest bans on single-use plastic bags.

The United Nations Environment Program welcomed Kenya's new ban, saying that it showed the nation's commitment to environmental protection. Many environmental groups from around the world also praised the nation for the new legislation, and commended Kenyan authorities' promotion of sustainable materials as an alternative to plastic.
