Several gunmen jumped out of a truck and rushed into an unofficial drug rehabilitation center in Irapuato in the Mexican state of Guanajuato, killing at least 24 people and injuring 7 others. According to police emergency response units, 3 of the 7 injured people are in serious condition. Local media reports say that those present at the facility were forced to lay on the ground before they were shot at. The latest attack marks the second attack at a rehabilitation facility in Irapuato, and is one of the deadliest attacks this year.

Guanajuato state's Attorney General Carlos Zamarripa called the incident a "cowardly" attack. As of now, the motive behind the attack is still under investigation, though a police spokesperson told a local media group that they currently do not know who is responsible for the attack. On the other hand, State Governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo suggests that gangs may have been involved, as some gangs may target clinics where they believe members of rivals are hiding in or are receiving treatment in.
