Just 2 days before the Ebola virus outbreak was to be declared over in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a new case and death by the infection was confirmed by local health officials in the city of Beni. This is the first person to contract Ebola in the nation in over 50 days, and the World Health Organization expects that more cases may emerge in the nation. Meanwhile, international and local health teams are currently on the ground in the Democratic Republic of Congo conducting case tracing and investigating Ebola alerts.

Since the latest outbreak starting August 1st, 2018, over 2,200 people have died of the disease. The DR Congo is also facing an outbreak of the Covid-19 coronavirus, with 234 confirmed cases and at least 20 reported deaths. Meanwhile, the World Bank will provide the equivalent of 47 million United States dollars in loans to help strengthen the nation's capacity to combat Covid-19.
