A Nepali De Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin Otter aircraft with service from the town of Pokhara to the town of Jomsom lost contact with ground control about 12 minutes after taking off at 09:55 local time. The aircraft, operating on behalf of subsidiary Yeti Airlines as Flight 1199, was carrying 19 passengers and 3 crew members when it went missing on its regularly-scheduled 20-minute flight.

Tara Air spokespeople reported that the aircraft was carrying 16 Nepali, 4 Indians, and two Germans at the time of the incident. As of now, local media outlets and state-owned media report that some villagers reported seeing an aircraft on fire near the village of Naurikot.

Officials told media outlets that while the Nepalese Army has been enlisted to aid the search, poor weather conditions thought to have played a role in the incident alongside the mountainous Nepali terrain is hampering efforts to locate the aircraft. It is unclear whether any of the passengers or crew survived the presumed crash.

In 2016, Tara Air Flight 193 crashed on the same route, killing all 23 people on board.
