5 Killed by Rainstorm and Flooding in Chongqing, China


Chinese government officials of the Zunyi city south of the Chongqing metropolis announced that five people are confirmed dead while 8 others are missing after torrential downpours began late on Thursday night. A statement by officials notes that at least 13,000 people have been evacuated, over 2,000 homes have been severely damaged or destroyed, many kilometres of roads have been damaged or destroyed, and three bridges have been destroyed.

The Ministry of Emergency Management said that this season's flooding across southern China has in total resulted in over 200,000 people seeking shelter while the economic losses are estimated to be over the equivalent of 500 million United States dollars.
