Cambria Goes Hardcore: Necromancy and Survival Rewards Transform Dungeons

By Web3wealth | Web3Wealth | 7 hours ago

Cambria has pushed its extraction dungeons into hardcore territory with the launch of v0.4: Dungeons Hardcore, introducing survival-based rewards, a new Necromancy mechanic, and additional Side Rooms. The update went live on August 22, 2026, changing how players approach risk and rewards inside the game.

The biggest change is the new survival-based reward system. Instead of rewards being determined mainly by how deep players progress, what they ultimately earn now depends heavily on whether they survive and successfully extract.

Players can also win Cut Gems worth 1,000 Dungeon Keys each by completing a run. With 10 Dungeon Keys valued at roughly $1 in stake value, a single Cut Gem represents about $100 in key value, making successful full runs significantly more attractive.

Survival Becomes the Main Strategy

Cambria’s Dungeons already revolve around risk and decision-making. Players spend Depths Keys to enter, choose between melee, ranged, or magic combat classes, select a glass cannon, hybrid, or tank loadout, and fight their way through up to eight increasingly difficult floors.

At every stage, players face the same decision: cash out or keep pushing.

The new survival-focused system makes that decision even more important. An aggressive player who reaches floor six but dies may earn less than a cautious player who survives and extracts successfully. This encourages smarter builds, defensive strategies, and better decision-making rather than simply taking larger risks.

Necromancy and Side Rooms Arrive

Necromancy is another major addition in v0.4, giving players a new mechanic to experiment with alongside the existing combat classes and loadouts.

The update also introduces Side Rooms, adding more variety to procedurally generated dungeon runs. Instead of moving through a predictable sequence of encounters, players can now discover additional areas between the main floors.

Together, these features give Dungeons more strategic depth while making each run feel less predictable.

$5 Million in Keys Risked

Dungeons has quickly become one of the most active parts of the Cambria ecosystem.

As of August 5, 2026, players had collectively risked around $5 million in Dungeon Keys, up from approximately $1 million on June 30. That’s a fivefold increase in roughly five weeks.

The mode had also recorded:

  • 242,132 dungeon runs
  • 133,500 fishing casts
  • 87,900 gems appraised

Keys serve as both the entry stake and a measure of risk. Players choose how much to stake, with larger stakes increasing potential payout multipliers. Unplayed keys can also be refunded.

How Extraction Rewards Work

Artifacts collected during dungeon runs can be converted into Dungeon Coins. These coins can either be redeemed through the Dungeon Liquidity Pool for weekly USDC payouts or traded directly between players.

An 8% payout fee supports ecosystem development, while a player’s Signet Tier can reduce the tax applied during redemptions.

Cambria also expanded its earning systems with Dungeon Fishing, introduced in v0.3.0. Players use Grub as bait to catch gems, charm cards, NFTs, and chests that can ultimately convert into keys.

What Is Cambria?

Cambria is a browser-based risk-to-earn MMO developed by Tempest Labs, drawing inspiration from games such as RuneScape and Ultima Online.

The game operates across Ronin, Blast, and Abstract and supports Windows, Mac, Linux, and web players. Players can access the game through Abstract Global Wallet, Ronin Wallet, MetaMask, or Google login.

Risk is central to Cambria’s gameplay. Whether players are exploring, fighting, claiming territory, or entering dungeons, their actions can carry real stakes, and failure can mean losing resources brought into the activity.

The game currently features three major modes:

Gold Rush is the main MMO experience, where players venture beyond the safety of Capital City into PVPVE areas to collect valuable resources and corrupted items.

Duel Arena offers high-stakes 1v1 battles where players can wager assets in winner-takes-all matches.

Dungeons focuses on extraction gameplay, forcing players to decide when to secure their rewards and when to risk going deeper.

A Growing Web3 Gaming Economy

Cambria’s progression system gives players multiple paths, including crafting, mining, trading, exploration, monster hunting, duels, and large-scale warfare.

Recent updates have added areas such as the Dark Forest and Swamps, revamped combat mechanics, new weapons and special attacks, a redesigned Tutorial Island, Demonic Power, regional servers, and Strongboxes.

In August, Essina’s Draw also launched as a daily check-in system offering tickets toward a nightly prize pool that can reach $200,000.

The RSGP token generation event is scheduled for August 2026 alongside the Genesis mainnet launch and Gold Rush Season 4.

Cambria has reportedly surpassed $130 million in game volume and 112,000 registered players, showing that its risk-to-earn model is attracting a growing audience.

With Dungeons Hardcore, Cambria is doubling down on its core philosophy: the bigger the risk, the more important survival becomes. Necromancy, Side Rooms, and survival-based rewards could make dungeon runs more strategic—and potentially more rewarding—for players willing to push their luck.
