Data for America

The 'Data for Democracy'  offers insightful updates from recent omnibus surveys. It highlights critical trends in American public opinion and political behavior, providing a comprehensive understanding of the current political landscape. Here are the five key insights from this month's edition:

  1. Dissatisfaction with Democracy: The survey reveals that only 41% of Americans feel satisfied with the functioning of democracy. Non-Partisans and Independents, including you, are particularly disillusioned, likely due to your limited participation in primary elections. Your voice and participation are crucial in shaping the future of democracy.

  2.  Election Distrust: There is a significant divide in trust regarding the upcoming 2024 election results, with two-thirds of voters expressing confidence while a third remain skeptical. Trust varies sharply between Democrats and Republicans, reflecting deep partisan divides over election integrity.

  3. Support for Voting Rights Restoration: There is increasing bipartisan support for legislation that aims to restore voting rights to people with past felony convictions. This support is part of a broader discussion on enhancing voting access and integrating disenfranchised citizens into the democratic process.

  4. Efforts to Combat Political Polarization: Bipartisan lawmakers introduced the Building Civic Bridges Act to address concerns over political polarization, which Americans now perceive as a significant threat to democracy. The focus is on encouraging respectful and open-minded communication across different political views.

  5. Climate Change Concerns Among Black Voters: Research indicates that Black voters are significantly more concerned about climate change than the national average. They are also more likely to support and engage in climate-friendly initiatives. This demographic exhibits less polarization on the issue and a more substantial commitment to addressing climate change.

These findings provide a snapshot of the current political climate in America, showcasing its citizens' varied concerns and priorities ahead of the 2024 election cycle.
