After Stock Trailers, let me introduce you to another concept I developed for my Youtube channel: Trailer Mashups (yes, I know, I love movie trailers). It's a fairly simple idea, I take the audio of a blockbuster movie trailer and stick it on top of a cartoon/animated movie classic to get a brand new epic cartoon trailer.
The trick is to try and find scenes in the cartoon/animated movie where characters are speaking in a way that matches what the audio says. It's definitely easier with a cartoon than an actual film though! Once I decide which character will be matched with which voice, it gets easier, as I just have to look for scenes in the animated movie with that character.
I also keep the images of the studio logos and director's and actors' names from the original trailer (the actual movie), and blend them with the images from the cartoon.
I always try to combine movies that are somewhat similar, if not in the story then in the decors and settings at least.
But images are always clearer than words, so here's an example:
The first one I ever did was a mashup of Ridley Scott's Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe that came out in 2010 and Disney's Robin Hood (the foxy one) that came out in 1973. I made it in 2013, as I was getting more seriously into video editing and was looking for ideas of things to edit but didn't have the means to film anything yet. That's how the concept was born.
And here's the most viewed one (and the second one ever made), a mashup of the first Avengers movie and The Incredibles. Even though I made more after this, it might still be my personal favorite so far.
I stopped working on this project after 2013, while still keeping some ideas in mind for new mashups, and I got back to it at the end of last year when I decided to give a new life and a new face to my Youtube channel. Since then, I created two more trailers: a mashup between Pixar's Planes and the new Top Gun movie, and one between Dreamworks' Sinbad and the second Pirates of the Caribbean (Dreamworks images and Disney audio, thought it was fun...). It's a concept that's really fun to work on. It's a lot of work, as it takes a lot of time to analyse both the trailer and the animated movie to figure out what images I need to find and then actually find them, but it's always fun and the results are pretty awesome, in my opinion at least!
