The Medicine Man (5 minute freewrite)

The Medicine Man (5 minute freewrite)

I haven't been there in some time, but in Tifton, Georgia there is a little shop on the corner: The Medicine Man.

The guy that owns it is named Mark and used to be a pharmaceutical rep. One day he decided that they were full of lies and he quit to start his own business selling things that were more likely to help some people. There's more to that story that I won't get into.

His shop is lined with all kinds of things: essential oils, natural soaps, lotions, local honey and beeswax.

If there was something that you were interested in but he didn't carry, he looked into ordering it for you.

He also had natural medicines like white willow bark extract which was essentially replaced by aspirin (they have the same active ingredient) and elderberry syrup which used to be a thing years ago.

It was my go-to place for homemade chigger and tick repellant.

I guess that this is an unpaid advertisement but whatever.
