Gammy asked me this afternoon about what I thought about martial law.

Well, it ain't a good thing.

But then again, I don't live in Chicago, LA or NYC.

The powers that be can declare martial law all they want but who is really going to be affected? Crab Orchard, KY? Kempner, TX? Renault, IL? More than likely not.

The extreme amount of resources needed to lock down cities will deplete manpower in outlying areas. There will still be local cops in these areas but I don't think they'll be near as anal retentive as those in larger urban areas.

Even if the National Guard is deployed, and some are now from what I hear, much area can they cover?

Take the Alabama National Guard for instance. I did a quick search but did not find any numbers for how many troops they have. What I did find, though, was that they have only what might amount to 8 brigades of varying missions. Some of these troops surely have seen action in Iraq and Afghanistan but would they pick up arms against their neighbors, family and friends?

To deploy these troops in a support role to help coordinate and deliver goods and services is a good thing. There are medics, truck drivers, mechanics and such who might lend support in aiding first responders.

I just find it highly unlikely that we'll be seeing any M1A1 tanks rolling down the streets of Chicago.
