"So there I was all close to the window with my nose pressed on the glass. I could see them all wigglin' and squirmin'. I knew I shouldn't have been there but I couldn't help myself."

"Mm-hmm. Then what happened?"

"Well I could tell they was getting all worked up. Something was 'bout to happen.

"Then one of them snakes jumped at me and hit the window. I musta thought he was gonna break through.

"I jumped, tripped over a rake, and fell back on the shelf. It came crashing down on me."

The doctor repositioned his glasses and looked up. "So... That's how you got your broken nose? Watching snakes fight over a mouse?"

"Yeah. Stupid, ain't it?"

The poor grammar was intentional.
