As related by my late uncle, Ed Willis, coon hunter extraordinaire.
Dickie Hilton and I were hunting one night when something ran across the road in front of us. We tried to catch it but it was too quick.
We let our dogs run while we were standing by the road. We didn't have any lights on because the moon was shining bright.
We heard the dogs coming our way and we were getting ready to move to another spot so were decided to catch our dogs and put them in the truck.
Dickie's dogs were hard to catch and didn't always come when called. I told Dickie that I'd help catch them as they came down the road.
One of the dogs came flying by me and brushed my leg.
I reached out to grab it then jumped to catch it as it whizzed by. Instead I ended up in the dirt.
A few minutes later, my dogs came out and I put then in the dog box. We stood around a few more minutes and then Dickie's came out where my dogs did. I looked st Dickie and asked, "Whose dog was the first one that came out? The one that I tried to catch?"
Dickie laughed and said, "I don't know but I suppose it wasn't a dog. It's a good thing you didn't catch it!"
He never did say what he thought it was but I figure it was probably a coyote.
