I know that most people aren't wild about fruitcake cookies, but my mother used to make them around Christmas every year.
These were fresh homemade cookies! Not just home baked like some people do with the tubes of premade Pillsbury dough (though they are more than palatable).
She would break out her cookbook and lay out all the ingredients - flour, eggs, butter, candied fruits, pecans... I'm not sure what all was in them but I loved them!
She probably still makes some to take to the family Christmas get together at my sister's house, but I don't know. I haven't been to one in several years because I live so far away.
You miss a lot of great stuff when you move away.
