What is BSC :
BSC stands for Binance smart chain which is essentially a hard fork of Geth (Go Ethereum) protocol (the irony here). Blockchains are like the foundation for DApps and Digital assets like NFTs.
Ethereum:
Ethereum blockchain went online in 2015 and was very successful in providing foundation to many DApps and projects. Eth has high scalability issues, so slow transactions , high gas fees. Gas fees are a nightmare for normal people. And given this Hype around NFTs , gas prices are reaching all time highs. Even layer 2 protocols like Polygon (Matic) which was designed to reduce gas fees have 30xed their gas fee owing to its frenzy.
I think in the current gas fees situation, DApp transactions on ETH chain are a waste of money. It totally defeats it's purpose, because banks can do the same transactions way cheaper or BSC , cheaper and faster .
Pros of BSC:
- Low gas fees and faster transactions.
- Compatibility with EVM;
- interoperability with Binance Chain;
- support of Smart Contracts and DApps
- Cross- chain communications and transactions.
Cons of BSC :
- It's not decentralized. Yes I know, it defeats the sole purpose of crypto, i.e Decentralisation. There are only 21 validators at a given time whereas ETH has many validators , you just need 32 Eth or you can pool with other users to meet the requirements. On the other side you need 10000 or more BNB coins to become a validator among the 21 members. This is equivalent of 1.3k ETH, which many people can't afford.
- As BSC is centralized, it is vulnerable to hacking and 51% of assaults, as well as system failures, as network validators must be validated by Binance's internal staff.
ETH 2.0:
ETH 2.0, here the consensus mechanism will be shifted to proof of work. If it will be implemented (they are implementing from a long time), we may see some reduction in gas fee and scalability issues may be solved. If they don't solve the issues then layer 2's might be the solution. If Eth 2.0 doesn't solve the problems then its a no for me. There are other blockchains which do the same thing but efficiently.
Some Eth fanboys may argue that look at the amount of ERC 20 tokens! People aren't Super rich to spend 100 bucks on a transaction of 50 bucks.
If you are so worried about decentralisation then use:
- NANO (NANO) ...
- Cardano (ADA) ...
- Litecoin (LTC) ...
- Ripple (XRP) ...
- Tron (TRON) ...
- EOSIO (EOS) ...
- Zilliqa (ZIL) ...
- Digibyte (DGB)
- Algogrand (Algo)
- Stellar lumens (XLM)
I'm not adding Solana as there is uncertainty about its decentralisation as it is heavily dependent on Solana foundation.
Outro:
I think ETH has the superior overall tech and decentralized, but if you don't give a shit about decentralisation use BSC as it's cheap and faster for the time being.
