In this post, I want to share my personal journey in the crypto world, along with some of the exact mistakes I made early on, so you can avoid falling into the same traps.
Jumping into crypto for the first time usually feels like stepping onto a high-speed roller coaster. Everyone around you is discussing overnight gains, new revolutionary tech, and financial freedom. But if you look past the noise, there’s a cold reality: most newcomers end up losing money in their first few months.
I’ve seen it happen time and time again—and I've paid my own tuition to the market. Here are the biggest traps beginners fall into, and how you can protect your capital.
1. Chasing Green Candles (FOMO)
The biggest money loser isn't a lack of research—it's raw emotion. Seeing a coin jump 40% in a single day creates an instant panic that you’re missing out. So, you buy at the peak, only to watch the price drop right after.
My advice: If a coin is already pumping hard, you’re likely too late for that entry. Wait for a pullback or look elsewhere. A calm plan will always outperform a panic buy.
2. The "Cheap Coin" Illusion
A lot of beginners fall into the trap of buying tokens that cost $0.00001, hoping they’ll hit $1 soon. But a low price tag doesn't mean a coin is cheap—market cap and total supply are what actually matter.
My advice: Don't buy a project just because you can get millions of tokens for twenty bucks. Look at what the project actually does and who is building it.
3. Ignoring Basic Security
Leaving all your funds on an exchange or clicking random "airdrop" links in Telegram is how most people lose their hard-earned money. In Web3, you are your own bank, which means security is completely on you.
My advice: Use 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) everywhere, never share your seed phrase with anyone, and if an offer sounds too good to be true, it’s 100% a scam.
Final Word
Making it in crypto isn't about getting rich quick; it’s about staying in the game long enough to learn how it works. Take your time, protect your funds, and build your knowledge step by step.
I will always be here for you if you ever have any questions or need guidance. Having experienced so much in this vast digital realm, I’ll be addressing many of the topics running through your mind in my upcoming posts. Stay tuned!
