I have been reading about the SEC and Ripple case. I know articles can be one sided, and the crypto industry is not different in that regard.
However, this article https://dailyhodl.com/2022/12/27/sec-attempts-to-seal-crucial-documents-in-xrp-lawsuit-with-ripple/ talks about how the SEC lawyers involved in the case against Ripple are trying to get certain documents sealed. Apparently, they are trying to get documents sealed that related to a 2018 speech in which William Hinman (a now former SEC official) stated that both Bitcoin and Ethereum are not securities.
Apparently, back in September a judge allowed the information regarding Mr. Hinman to be released. This seems to be the SEC attempt to deny evidence in the case. How would this not be relevant to the case at hand.
Here is my question, if as the SEC lawyers are reported to have stated that the information is not relevant to the case against Ripple, why make attempts to block it? The answer (at least to my admitted limited knowledge and understanding on the topic) is that it proves Ripple's case. The buzz around the SEC when dealing with cryptocurrency is that the SEC picks and chooses to fight or attack specific cryptocurrencies, that it is not honest or accurate in how it treats the cryptocurrencies it goes after while leaving others alone. To me, this helps make that case, that the SEC is not doing a good job and is not being fair. I have written about my thoughts on this topic. I do not see how any cryptocurrency can be a security.
I am watching this case closely, as I think it has profound implications on the future of cryptocurrencies. I hope the SEC plays fair and treats the space as honestly as it can.
