The Teatro alla Scala, usually referred to informally as the Scala, is the main opera house in Milan.

Considered among the most prestigious theaters in the world, it has hosted for 242 years the main artists in the international field of opera, and, more generally, of classical music, often commissioning works still present on the billboards of the major theaters in the world.

The building, designed by Giuseppe Piermarini and inaugurated in 1778, was built on the ashes of the previous Ducal Theater, destroyed by fire in 1776; it owes its name to the church of Santa Maria alla Scala, demolished to make room for the New Royal Ducal Teatro alla Scala inaugurated on August 3, 1778, under the then reign of Maria Teresa of Austria, with Europe recognized as composed for the occasion by Antonio Salieri.

Starting from the year of foundation, it is the seat of the homonymous choir, of the orchestra, of the corps de ballet, and since 1982 also of the Philharmonic. The theater complex is located in the square of the same name, flanked by the Ricordi Casino, now home to the La Scala Theater Museum.

Milan is an Italian municipality of 1 390 434 inhabitants, the second largest municipality in Italy by population, the capital of the Lombardy region and the metropolitan city of the same name, and the center of one of the most populous metropolitan areas in Europe.

Founded around 590 BC, perhaps with the name of Medhelan, near a sanctuary by a Celtic tribe belonging to the Insubri group and belonging to the culture of Golasecca, it was conquered by the ancient Romans in 222 BC. and later renamed them Mediolanum. Over the centuries its importance increased until it became the capital of the Western Roman Empire, during which period the edict of Milan was promulgated, which granted all citizens, therefore also Christians, the freedom to honor their divinity.

At the forefront of the struggle against the Holy Roman Empire in the communal age, it became the first lordship and then raised to a ducal dignity at the end of the fourteenth century, remaining at the center of the political and cultural life of Renaissance Italy. At the beginning of the 16th century it lost independence in favor of the Spanish Empire and then passed, almost two centuries later, under the Austrian crown: thanks to Habsburg policies, Milan became one of the main centers of Italian Enlightenment. Capital of the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy, after the Restoration it was among the most active centers of the Risorgimento until it entered the Savoy Kingdom of Italy.

The main economic and financial center of the Italian peninsula, Milan led its industrial development, constituting the "industrial triangle" with Turin and Genoa, especially during the years of the economic boom when industrial and urban growth also involved neighboring cities, creating the vast Milanese metropolitan area. In the cultural sphere, Milan is the main Italian publishing center and is at the top of the world music circuit thanks to the opera season of the Teatro alla Scala and its long opera tradition. It is also one of the main European trade fair and industrial design centers, and is considered one of the world's fashion capitals.

Together with the city of Cortina d'Ampezzo, in 2026 it will host the XXV Winter Olympic Games, the fourth edition of the Olympic Games which will take place in Italy (the third of the winter ones) after Cortina d'Ampezzo 1956, Rome 1960 and Turin 2006.

The journey (from the Provençal viatge, in turn deriving from the Latin viatĭcum; the latter was the necessary supply for traveling) is the movement made from one place of departure to another distant (relative to one's means) from the first. The trip can be local, regional, national or international. In some countries, non-local internal travel may require an internal passport, while international travel generally requires a passport and a Visa.
