Bieszczady is my favorite place to relax in Poland. I have a great fondness for this mountain range, because during my student days I spent many months of the year there, staying overnight in mountain shelters and in a tent.

Bieszczady to moje ulubione miejsce do wypoczynku na terenie Polski. Mam do tego pasma górskiego duży sentyment, bo za czasów studenckich spędzałem tam wiele miesięcy w roku, nocując w schroniskach górskich oraz pod namiotem.

We moved the mountain pastures almost every day. Today a little bit about the Wetlińska pasture and the Solina Lagoon.

Przemieszczaliśmy połoniny prawie każdego dnia. Dzisiaj trochę o połoninie Wetlińskiej i Zalewie Solińskim.

But I will start with the genesis of the name Bieszczady. The word "Bieszczady" comes from the Russian word "Beskid" which means a mountain border that separates Poland and Ruthenia from Hungary. This is what all official sources say, but I like the unofficial version, i.e. the legend.

Ale zacznę od genezy nazwy Bieszczady. Słowo „Bieszczady” pochodzi od ruskiego słowa „Beskid” co oznacza górskie pogranicze, oddzielające Polskę i Ruś od Węgier. Tak podają wszystkie oficjalne źródła, ale mi podoba się wersja nieoficjalna, czyli legenda.

Legend has it that two new varieties of devils were bred in Hell, one called fiends and the other called fiends. The devils were specific, so it was decided for the safety of other devils in hell to be relocated to the land named after the combination of the names of fiends and chad - in the Bieszczady Mountains.

Legenda głosi, że w piekle wyhodowano dwie nowe odmiany diabłów, jedne nazwano biesami, a drugie czadami. Diabły były specyficzne, więc postanowiono je dla bezpieczeństwa innych diabłów w piekle, przesiedlić do krainy, nazwanej od połączenia nazw bies i czady - w Bieszczady.

The village of Wetlina has about 300 inhabitants. It is an ideal place to stay, as several of the most attractive tourist routes begin, including Mount Smerek and the Wetlinska pasture.

Wieś Wetlina liczy około 300 mieszkańców. Jest idealnym miejscem pobytu, bowiem zaczyna się kilka najbardziej atrakcyjnych szlaków turystycznych, między innymi na Górę Smerek i połoninę Wetlińską.

Going further, you can reach the famous hut called Chatka Puchatka. Following the trail, we will reach the Caryńska pasture to Ustrzyki

I have traveled this route many times, marching with my companions for shopping in Ustrzyki, and more precisely for beer, because it was available only there at one time.

Wielokrotnie pokonywałem tą trasę maszerując z kompanami na zakupy do Ustrzyk, a precyzyjniej po piwo, bo tylko tam swego czasu było dostępne.

The Solina Lagoon is an artificial retention reservoir on the San River. In order to fill it up, it was necessary to build a dam.

Zalew w Solinie to sztuczny zbiornik retencyjny na rzece San. Aby go napełnić potrzebna była budowa tamy.

The dam in Solina is the biggest attraction of the Solina Lake. It is 81.8 meters high and 664 meters long. The construction of the dam began in 1960 and lasted for 8 years, employing approximately 2,000 workers. It was put into operation on July 20, 1968. This gigantic building is of course equipped with a hydroelectric power plant

Zapora w Solinie jest największą atrakcją Jeziora Solińskiego. Ma 81,8 m wysokości i 664 m długości. Budowę zapory rozpoczęto w 1960 roku i trwała ona przez 8 lat, zatrudniając około 2 tysięcy pracowników. Oddano ją do użytku 20 lipca 1968 roku. Ta gigantyczna budowla zaopatrzona jest oczywiście w hydroelektrownię.

On the shores of the Solina lagoon there are several charming towns, including Polańczyk, which is a small port with a rental of sailboats, boats and other water attractions.

Nad brzegiem zalewu solińskiego leży kilka urokliwych miejscowości, między innymi Polańczyk, który jest małym portem z wypożyczalnią w żaglówek, łódek i innych wodnych atrakcji.

Looking down at the Solina Lagoon, it resembles more exotic islands in the tropics than mountains in Poland
