The first day in Rio I went out for a walk in the neighborhood and arrived at the Museo da Chácara do Céu, via Largo Do Curvelo and Largo do Guimarães. I could not visit Parque das Ruinas, next door (it was closed), but it didn't matter anymore, I was overjoyed to discover such a splendid city, with panoramic views all around.
Flamengo Beach
Finally, the beach! I was in Brazil for a week, but I hadn't seen the ocean yet. Praia do Flamengo is a less famous beach, but less crowded, so it was the right place for the first evening in Rio. Near the beach, towards the boulevard, there is a sanctuary for cats, with dozens of spoiled cats fed by the locals.
Old Town
Over the weekend I found the Old Desert Center, just a police car here and there and a few dizzy bums. All the houses seemed deserted, the shops empty and a strange feeling of an abandoned city where no human soul remained. Something further down the boulevard was more lively, more homeless, more cafes, more tourists. I did not feel insecure, but neither seemed the place to walk alone at night.
Escalaria Selarón
Selarón in Rio, a staircase that became famous after a local began to beautify it with all kinds of colored ceramic plates. What was new and beautiful became a tiring attraction.
Carioca aqueduct
The aqueduct was built in the 18th century to bring fresh water to the city's population. Now it is no longer carrying water.
The Santa Teresa tram
Is a historic tram line that connects the city center with the residential district, on the hills southwest of the city center. Now it is an exclusively tourist line, the trams have only one wagon, and the tickets are bought near the Carioca Aqueduct
I took it from the other end, which is in, I found the last station, I admired Cristo Redeemer who was at the top of a hill and sat at the tail. When the tram arrived full of tourists, surprise - I could only buy the ticket from the houses near the aqueduct. But that didn't stop the driver from making room for me in the tram. The tram ride is not to be missed if you arrive in Rio, Santa Tereza, this is a treasure.
