Trump's estimates that the US military will help quell black riots in the streets will not be justified. At the very least, the top U.S. military, including the Secretary of Defense himself, has opposed his president. How did this happen - and why did the military question the authority of the Commander-in-Chief? Protests and pogroms continue in American cities due to the death of George Floyd, to whom the police used excessive force. And these protests are complicated by the fact that in a number of states and cities (the same Minneapolis where the tragic incident took place), democratic governors did not side with all their citizens, but only with their electorate - the left radicals and blacks. The video of the mayor of Minneapolis crying against the backdrop of a gilded coffin with a hitherto unknown recidivist (who actually died not from suffocation of a police officer, but from a mixture of drugs and alcohol in his blood) is an excellent illustration of this.
From newspapers and television screens, experts and journalists called on the generals to "find courage in themselves" and "speak out against Trump" in defense of the country and the constitution, as Trump allegedly wants to usurp power and become an authoritarian leader. After all, then any peaceful protest against him will be fraught with danger to life.

And the generals came forward. "The U.S. military should not be used against American citizens and should not be used to pursue someone's narrow party interests," said former U.S. Secretary of Defense William Perry.

There is a collective reluctance of the current military to use its powers on the orders of President Trump. A president who could step down in six months, leaving the military to deal with the aftermath of hostilities against riotous American citizens. For now, they are only expressing displeasure - but if Trump does not take urgent action to persuade or reassure the military, then Al Jazeera's "General Revolt" headline could turn from a sick fantasy into an objective American reality
