Do you remember those old-school games, where at the end of each dungeon, after a super difficult mission, or when you finally reached a certain level, there was a save point? A glowing altar, a bonfire, a camp tent… an NPC with a bright yellow arrow over their head—or something simple, yet sacred. You just had to walk up to it, press Enter, and done: your progress was safely saved. You knew that if you died afterward, you wouldn’t lose everything. You could return to that point, breathe, regroup… and keep going.
But in real life, there’s no Save Game button. No "F12 - Save Game" that triggers an automatic backup. But let me tell you something… even so… save points still exist. They’re not flickering lights on the ground. They don’t make confirmation sounds. But they’re there. And they matter more than any final boss.
What is a save point in life?
It’s that moment when, without realizing it, you pause time, take a deep breath, and say: *"I’m here. And for now, that’s okay."*
It might be the first time you cry in front of someone and aren’t judged, the day you quit a job that was consuming you—even if you don’t have another one lined up, when you accept help after years of saying “I can do it alone, I don’t need anyone,” when you forgive, even though the pain is still fresh, or simply when you decide to go to bed early because your soul needs it.
These aren’t just moments. They are save points. Because they mark a before and after. They are the checkpoints where life says to you: *“You did it. You can rest now. You won’t go back.”* And I can assure you, the day after that will be different… lighter, more breathable…
But… what happens when you don’t save?
In games, if you don’t save, you lose hours of progress. You go back to the last checkpoint with fewer resources, more frustration, and probably a sore back from sitting too long in front of the screen… And sometimes, you just want to close the game. The same thing happens in real life. When you don’t acknowledge your progress, when you ignore your small victories, you force yourself to start over from zero… again and again.
And you forget that you’ve already cleared the first dungeon, already defeated that inner boss who kept telling you “you can’t,” already survived days with just 5% HP. That’s why you need to save your game.
How do you save in real life?
There’s no button, but there are rituals. First, stop. Just stop. Not everything demands action. Sometimes, progress is simply standing still and saying: *"I made it this far."* Then, recognize it. Say it out loud: *“Today I didn’t give up.” “Today I chose healing.” “Today I was kind to myself.” “Today I managed to do something I never thought I could.”*
You can also write it down. A journal, a voice note, a message to yourself, a video… It’s your save file. When you start doubting again, open it. It will remind you that you’ve already been through this… and made it out.
And don’t underestimate people. Surround yourself with trustworthy "NPCs": those friends, therapists, siblings, mentors who, just like game NPCs, give you small quests, heal you, remind you of the path. They, too, are human save points.
Even the darkest moments can be save points…
Sometimes, the save point doesn’t come with victory, but with defeat. Not when everything goes well, but when everything breaks apart… and you still decide to keep going. That day you got out of bed when you didn’t want to. That call you made when you were broken. That tear you let fall without shame.
There, without realizing it, you pressed Save. And that file was stored away for when you’d need it most.
So, where are your save points?
Maybe in the letter you keep in your drawer, in a photo of a sunset after a terrible day, in the voice of someone who said: *“I’m here.”*, or in the moment you decided to try again, or that day you finally found the courage to take the first step toward healing your life… Don’t underestimate these moments. They are the backups that allow you to keep playing, even when the game is hard.
👉 What was your most recent save point? What recent moment made you say: *"I’m alive. I’m still here."*? Tell me in the comments. Sometimes, naming them makes them real… and gives them the power to save us again. ❤️

🙏 Thank you for keeping your game saved. Every time you do it, you tell the universe: *"I’m still in the game."* And that, in itself, is a victory.
I’ll see you on the next mission. And as I always say, thank you for making it this far.
