With the recent announcements that cryptocurrency lending platforms Celsius and Voyager have stopped allowing customers to withdraw their own funds, many well-meaning crypto influencers have urged cryptocurrency holders to move their funds off of centralized providers and into their own self-custody cryptocurrency wallets. Although holding your cryptocurrency in your own wallet can be more secure than leaving your crypto on an exchange, holding your own cryptocurrency also requires more diligence as you assume full responsibility for your assets. In this post, I'll explain some of the risks of storing your crypto yourself, and we will discuss the difference between cryptocurrency passwords and seed phrases. Lastly, I'll show you how to use your seed phrase to restore your wallet and recover lost crypto.
