Imagine a zoo of investors, each with their own personalized portfolio.
With S&P500 down by 25%, BTC down by 70%, and still no clear signs of inversions, I was chatting with my animals on what could be an easy way to have a kind of Dollar Cost Averaging to take the (we hope) lower part of the "buy the dip!" curve.

So another portfolio experiment series? Yep! Internet has several billion pages, don't you want several thousand of possible portfolios?
The series
This series has the aim to follows 5 different low-thought portfolios and see how they perform:
- "The Drunken Pirate", owned by the Monkey
- "The Internet Said", owned by the Dog
- "Drive by Looking in Rear View Mirror" owned by the Turtle
- "Optimistic Drive by Looking in Rear View Mirror" owned by the Elephant
- "Trending", owned by the Sheep
(Just for ease of analysis, CoinMarketCap is used as price database).
"The Drunken Pirate" portfolio
The Monkey likes to invest as a rich drunken pirate, so his rules are:
- Drink
- Drink more
- Drink a little more
- Buy 100$ of 5 random coins/tokens from the 50 of largest capitalization (excluding stablecoins).
It might seem like a lot of possible coins, but CoinMarketCap displays around 10,000 tokens, so we're actually only picking the top 0.5% of the total available. - Go to bed happy
- Forget what happened
- Wait a month
- Repeat
If it works, quite an easy way to become rich, merits and faults belong to luck.
"The Internet said" portfolio
The Dog likes to do what people tell him to do, doesn't mind if people really do what they said.
His rules as an investor are:
- Buy 100$ of each of the 5 coins/tokens with popular higher price increase prediction for the month
- Go to bed happy saying thank you to people to have told him the short way to become rich
- Forget of the scams / pump and dump / rug pull shillers were working on
- Wait a month
- Repeat
- Sell the coin/token after 2 months they are no more in the first 5 places
It will be hard to see how many beautifully optimistic prevision will go nowhere and keep the strength to continue to follow this path, but he hopes that a few real x100 coins will make the difference.
"Drive by Looking in Rear View Mirror" portfolio
The Turtle believes that following the largest capitalization tokens/coins is a safe and easy way to slowly increase the portfolio value.
His rules as an investor are:
- Invest a total of 500$ on the 5 largest capitalization coins/tokens (excluding stablecoins), the percentage of the investment as:
- #1 for capitalization = 33,33% = 166,67$
- #2 for capitalization = 26,67% = 133,33$
- #3 for capitalization = 20,00% = 100,00$
- #4 for capitalization = 13,33% = 66,67$
- #5 for capitalization = 6,67% = 33,33$
- After a month repeat or re-balance the portfolio
"Optimistic Drive by Looking in Rear View Mirror" portfolio
The Elephant likes the "Drive by Looking in Rear View Mirror" approach, but see as a better way to increase the portfolio value reversing the percentage of investments, investing more in the smaller cap coins/tokens.
His rules as an investor are:
- Invest a total of 500$ on the 5 largest capitalization coins/tokens (excluding stablecoins), the percentage of the investment as:
- #1 for capitalization = 6,67% = 33,33$
- #2 for capitalization = 13,33% = 66,67$
- #3 for capitalization = 20,00% = 100,00$
- #4 for capitalization = 26,67% = 133,33$
- #5 for capitalization = 33,33% = 166,67$
- After a month repeat or re-balance the portfolio
"Trending" portfolio
The Sheep likes to follow the trend,
His rules as an investor are:
- Buy 100$ of each of the first "trending" 5 coins/tokens of the month (excluding stablecoins)
- Go to bed happy, satisfied to follow the rumors
- Hope not to find scams / pump and dump / rug pull shillers were working on
- Wait a month
- Repeat
- Sell the coin/token after 2 months they are no more trending
