Women have better taste, unlike men. And it's not about fashion or interior design right now. Danish scientists have proved that girls have much more taste buds than boys. They were not too lazy to conduct a study among almost nine thousand schoolchildren to draw such conclusions. Moreover, the sensitivity to different tastes also differed by the regions in which the observations were carried out. Taste preferences not only change with age, but also depend on the territory of residence and gender differences. The world around us is different for each person, even to taste — and now it has been proven.

The longest prison term in the history of mankind, for which Gabriel Marcia Grandos was included in the Guinness Book of Records, was 384912 years. It would seem that such an absurdly stunning sentence can only be received by a serial killer, a bloodthirsty violator of the law, but a lazy postman turned out to be in the Spanish dock, who instead of delivering letters for many years was engaged in their disposal. He destroyed a total of 42768 letters, for each of which he received 9 years in prison. That is how much, according to Spanish law, someone who tries to spoil a document is supposed to serve behind bars. In fact, Gabriel received only a little more than 14 years in prison, but the prosecutor's attempt to impose the death penalty on him made his name in the history of mankind forever. It seems that working as a postman in Spain is a huge responsibility!

Chinese meat delicacy is unlikely to appeal to cat lovers. Four million fluffy pets disappear from the plates of the inhabitants of a multimillion-dollar country every year. There is a popular belief that cat meat is not just a delicacy, but also able to cure many diseases. In Guangdong Province, where it is consumed everywhere, there are whole cookbooks on cooking cat dishes. Traditional Chinese medicine does not support these habits, convincing residents that cats eat unhealthy food, meat is not always strictly checked by sanitary control, which means it can cause more harm than mythical benefit. But so far these arguments are not so convincing, and the inhabitants of this country continue to eat pets. By the way, they also stew dogs, fry them and serve them to the festive table, so be careful when tasting local delicacies.

Japan, which does not differ in large territories, does not advertise its gold reserves at all and does not boast of mines, surprised the whole world in 2005 by casting the largest gold bar on the planet weighing 250 kg and worth almost $ 9500,000. Everyone can touch it in the museum, located on the ancient mines 30 km from Tokyo. There you can also see how the ore was mined, and try yourself in gold mining.

The tiniest hoofed animal in the world is a deer, or a Vietnamese rat. Until 2019, it was considered extinct until it staged a concert in front of forest camera traps. These babies live in the forests of Southeast Asia and West Africa, for 50 million years they have shown the highest resilience and adaptability. They are able to quickly run away from predators, fight off the enemy with sharp fangs and eat everything in a row — not only grass, but also the meat of a predator killed in a fight. Brutal males arrange duels for females during the mating season, using the same sharp fangs, protect their territory, which stretches for 10-15 hectares, from relatives. In general, the fighting deer is a model of resilience, energy and positivity.

Berry or fruit, herb or vegetable, or still edible cactus, pineapple is a real mystery of nature. Dense peel and juicy sweet pulp, a storehouse of useful vitamins and trace elements — treats vision and respiratory organs, prevents cancer and problems with the urinary system, is an excellent immunomodulator. Botanists have come to the conclusion that pineapple is a cluster of many small berries fused into a single fruit, which is harvested exclusively by hand, while it can only be plucked, not cut off, so as not to damage it before further transportation.

The birthplace of chess is India, the guardian of ancient wisdom, tranquility and fortitude. Initially, in the VI century, the game was called «chaturanga» — four troops: infantry, cavalry, elephants and chariots. The same name has one of the power poses in yoga — chaturanga dandasana, which strengthens all muscle groups and tempers the will. Then chess «migrated» to the territory of modern Iraq and Iran, then to the Middle East and only then to Europe and Russia. The first real textbook on this game «On the ingenuity and art of playing chess» was written in 1561 by the Spanish priest Rui Lopez de Segura. Polish psychologist Laszlo Polgar, with the help of intensive training of his three daughters in the art of chess, proved to the whole world that a genius can be raised: his three little girls from the age of four showed amazing results in this strategic game and beat experienced grandmasters. It's time to put aside your gadgets and show the whole family who is capable of what in this ancient «war».

The tablecloth on the tables in Ancient Western Europe was not an interior decoration and an element of serving, but was purely practical in nature. Before it became customary to use cutlery, various dishes, including fatty meat, were eaten with their hands, and then wiped them on beards or hair on their heads. Having adopted other customs from the conquered peoples, the Europeans began to cover the tables with coarse, dense pieces of cloth, with which they cleaned their fingers after the feast. Tablecloths became the highlight of the feast only a few centuries later, when they began to be made of thinner and more expensive material, artfully decorated, and napkins and towels were used for personal hygiene. In Russia, tablecloths appeared much earlier than in Europe, and have always been a holiday decoration, served as a dowry, were not used in everyday meals, since hot pots with food fell on a wooden uncovered table directly from the oven.

The appearance is deceptive — white and fluffy, such light and delicate clouds actually weigh from 500 to 800 tons, and rain clouds that are about to fall to the ground with centimeters of precipitation — up to 1200 tons. The length and width of clouds are rarely less than a kilometer, and the volume reaches several billion cubic meters. Such a weight can be kept in the air by the temperature difference — condensed water particles are slightly warmer than the surrounding air, and warm air flows that rise from the ground help the clouds stay high above the surface.

Giraffes are strikingly adapted to protect themselves from surrounding dangers. High growth allows you to notice a predator from afar, the ability to stay awake almost constantly, falling asleep only for a couple of minutes, makes it possible for these giants to be alert all the time. 30 minutes of sleep, a vegetarian diet and a meek disposition are just flowers compared to the fact that giraffes can go without water longer than camels. This saves them from being attacked at watering holes and allows them to move around the savannah for a long time, replenishing the body's fluid reserves with the help of moisture from the leaves they eat. However, the absolute record holder among non-drinking mammals is the koala, which is able to adhere to the «prohibition» and not drink water for up to 15 years.
