Cryptocurrency has been an increasingly popular trend in recent years due to its potential to enable global financial transactions faster and more cost-effectively than traditional fiat currency. Cryptocurrency is also attractive due to its decentralized, secure, and anonymous nature – features which have made it a popular choice amongst individuals wanting to manage their purchases and investments with a greater degree of privacy. In this essay, I will be exploring why cryptocurrency is loved by so many people and the various advantages it offers.
The popularity of cryptocurrency is seen by many as a positive development, as it presents an instant and cost-effective way of transferring payments without relying on banks or other traditional currency systems (Köhler, 2018). This new form of digital money enables direct peer-to-peer transactions and provides an efficient, secure and often anonymous platform for making and receiving payments (Zervos and Kolp, 2018; Gurbacs, 2018). Furthermore, the decentralization of cryptocurrencies makes them largely immune to traditional economic, political and banking systems, which could offer people in developing economies access to better financial services (Sherin, 2018).
