Getting all those e-books!

Apart from dishing up a monthly helping of decent games for an inexpensive subscription, Humble Bundle also holds regular bundle sales of games AND e-books! Over the many years that I've been a loyal Humble Bundle subscriber and user, I've picked up more than a few book and comic bundles...

However, with many of these bundles, I've bought them... but then not gone and immediately downloaded them. Ages ago, it was because you had to individually download each book or comic... in all the various forms (pdf, cbz, mobi... whatever). There's no way to sugarcoat it... that is one incredibly tedious task without some automation!

Anyway, they have since introduced a bulk download option... so that you can download all the books and comics from a particular purchased bundle by format. So, you would download all the .cbz, the all the .pdf... and so on. This means that generally, you only need to press the button about 4 times (one for each format...), instead of clicking about 40-80 different buttons!

Even better, it there are torrents of the comics/books as well as the direct downloads. This makes it easy to just grab all the torrent files and then set them to work on the NAS and forget about them.

There were about 20 or so book/comic bundles to download... ranging from kiddie comics to adult comics, to travel books to history books to technical and programming books. I see that there are some decent ccoking books in a Bundle on sale at the moment!

Now, they are all safely stored locally on the NAS... and I have to get to work on figuring out how to put them in a place where I will actually end up reading them! My wife has an Amazon Paperwhite... and the Lenovo Duet is also a good place to put the comics.

I love the concept of having e-books... when you are travelling a lot it is such a convenient way to carry your collection around with you. However, there is the problem that they are digital... and so in many ways, they are easy to forget about unless you put them front and centre in your workflow. Otherwise, they are like a physical object that has been stashed away in a some cupboard or attic somewhere in your house... forgotten and unused.

In fact, the last time I picked up some discount comics at a local comic store, I found out that I had already owned about half of them as digital versions! Sigh... still, I do like have the physical copies... plus, those actually got read! I'm going to read the rest of the collections... moving them to the Duet... and then I will be in comic book heaven.

Meanwhile, my wife was surprised that there were non-comics as well! She's interested in those...

Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life! I'm a Violinist and doing what I love is often interestingly contrasted with the reality of getting to do what I love...
