Bitcoin just had a week that caught a lot of people off guard.
After struggling around the low $60,000s, it suddenly ripped higher and climbed above $79,000. That puts Bitcoin up roughly 23% for the week, its strongest weekly performance in years.
So what happened?
Honestly, it wasn't just one thing.
The Bond Market Played a Big Role
The biggest surprise came from the U.S. Treasury.
The Treasury announced that it would at least double its buyback operations for longer-term government bonds. That helped push long-term yields lower and gave investors more reason to take risk.
And Bitcoin loves liquidity.
When financial conditions start looking easier, investors often become more willing to move into riskier assets.
Bitcoin was one of the biggest beneficiaries.
Then Institutional Buyers Returned
This part is important.
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw more than $1 billion of inflows over two days, suggesting that institutional demand was coming back at the same time Bitcoin was breaking higher.
That gives this rally a little more credibility.
It isn't just retail traders suddenly getting excited.
There is actual money flowing into Bitcoin investment products.
Then the Shorts Got Crushed
Here's where the rally really accelerated.
A huge number of traders were betting Bitcoin would fall.
When BTC started moving higher, those positions began getting liquidated.
That forced short sellers to buy Bitcoin back, creating even more upward pressure.
So the market basically created a snowball.
Bitcoin rises → shorts get liquidated → forced buying increases → Bitcoin rises again.
Billions of dollars in short positions were reportedly wiped out during the move.
But I'm Not Calling This a New Bull Run Yet
This is where I'd stay careful.
Bitcoin moving from around $63K to nearly $80K in a matter of days is impressive.
But fast rallies can also become fast corrections.
What I want to see now is whether Bitcoin can hold the gains.
If buyers continue supporting the market and ETF inflows remain strong, this rally could have much more behind it.
But if the buying slows down, some of this week's explosive move could disappear just as quickly.
For now, I'm impressed.
Bitcoin didn't just bounce this week. It completely changed the mood.
The question now is whether this is the start of something bigger—or simply one massive week that got everyone excited.
