At one point owning a crypto wallet was a revolutionary idea.
You might transfer money anywhere in the globe without seeking permission from the bank.
You might own digital assets without having to deal with a conventional financial institution.
You can be connected with decentralized applications in a couple of clicks.
However, the future of the crypto wallet could be drastically different than the wallets we are familiar with.
The largest transformation of crypto that may not be quicker transactions.
It could be intelligence.
With AI coming into the wallet, the wallet is no longer just a storage space for assets.
It begins to get quite interesting.
- It turns into your financial interface.
Today, you tell your wallet what to do.
Your wallet might know what you want next day!
Consider the ways in which we employ crypto now.
You wish to exchange tokens for one another.
You open an app.
It is up to you to pick the token.
You verify that it's liquid.
You compare fees.
You agree to the transaction.
You sign it.
You wait.
Repeat this process as needed when you want to do something different.
It may be a routine thing to you if you're familiar with cryptocurrencies.
It's a complicated situation for everyone else.
The average person doesn't want to understand gas fees, bridges, liquidity pools, slippage, private keys, smart contracts and network selection.
“Just say:
I would like to transfer funds there.
And have it happen safely.
This is where AI can make a complete difference.
Imagine a wallet that works more like an assistant.
You don't have to open each protocol yourself, you can just inform your wallet what you want.
Bring some of my stablecoins to the cheapest network!
Or:
I want to make yield, but not take too much of a chance.
Or:
Convert enough cryptocurrencies to pay for this transaction.
The AI doesn't have to be in control of your assets, but it does.
It could just know what you are looking for and provide the most suitable alternatives.
You are in charge!
The wallet will be the bridge between what you want and the increasingly complex world of Web3.
That's a huge turnaround.
The real issue with crypto isn't necessarily a lack of technology.
I guess it's been the challenges with using that tech.
The wallet could become your personal crypto navigator.
Users hop between exchanges, wallets, bridges, DeFi platforms and block explorers today.
Tomorrow, the user may not even care which protocol is being used.
The AI could handle the complexity behind the scenes.
It's your turn to say what you want.
A route is found by the system.
You review it.
You approve it.
Done.
It could also turn into a fascinating scenario in which the blockchain as a foundation is rendered close to invisible.
And that could be the time when cryptocurrencies find their way to the mainstream.
Consider the Internet.
The vast majority of people are unaware of which servers they are searching Google from.
They do not have an idea of which databases are the ones used for their Instagram data.
They don't need to.
They just make use of the applications.
Eventually, cryptos may take the same route.
Now the blockchain is the backbone.
The wallet is the interface.
And AI becomes the layer that speaks to the human.
But there is a problem nobody talks about enough.
The more intelligent the wallet, the more important the data.
Suppose a wallet could be built to know:
What you own.
What you spend.
What you invest in.
If you have money to move around.
What protocols you use.
The risk level you are willing to take.
What financial goals you have.
That info could be really potent.
And it can be extremely hazardous.
The concept was that people should have greater control of their money, which is how it got started with crypto.
AI-powered wallets could reinforce that notion…
Sneak up on it.
Is there a question not.
Can AI make crypto easier?
But the more important question is:
Who is the beneficiary of the AI?
The real competition may be for your financial intent.
This is the next thing I believe will be interesting to watch in crypto.
Users compete for exchanges.Users fight with exchanges.
Developers are competing for blockchains.
Protocols are liquidity bidders.
However, AI-wallets may be able to rival for even more valuable assets:
Your intention.
When your wallet knows what you want to do before you do it, then you have the beginning of your entire financial life.
One cannot look for a protocol.
The wallet looks one up.
Ten different routes do not get compared.
The AI makes comparisons.
You don't have to master all of the blockchains.
The AI takes care of complexity.
In a flash, the most important crypto company could be the one that isn't the most massive exchange.
It might be the one that creates the most intelligent man-machine connection in decentralized finance.
This could also change how we think about crypto adoption.
For years, crypto has been waiting for the "next billion users."
Or perhaps, the issue wasn't trying to get people to purchase Bitcoin.
Perhaps it was the complication of too much to understand for the common man.
Suppose that, in 2005, you handed someone a cell phone and said:
“If you use this, you need to know how the Internet works.
The vast majority would turn their tails.
The smartphone was a success because it concealed the complexity.
Crypto could need to do the same.
Technical complexity could be hidden in the next generation of wallets, but ownership and control remain.
And it could be AI that enables that.
But I don't think the future will be completely controlled by AI.
Well, at least it isn't the Kindle.Hopefully, it is not the Kindle.
Always, there needs to be a clear distinction between AI suggesting and AI deciding.
So your wallet will tell you:
The fee for this transaction is high.
It can tell you:
This protocol is a higher risk protocol.
It can suggest:
Here are three methods that will help you to get close to your target.
However, the final choice should be up to you.
If we create a financial system which people trust unconditionally with algorithms, we don't really remove the middleman.
We simply installed a black box as a substitute for the bank.
And that would be the exact opposite of crypto.
The most successful crypto wallet may be the one you barely notice.
This sounds strange.
Crypto began with folks discussing private keys, seed phrases, blockchains and decentralization.
However, it may be a lot quieter in the future.
You take out your wallet.
You give it a command. You give it orders.
It provides information on the alternatives.
You approve.
The transaction happens.
No complicated dashboards.
No hopping to 10 websites.
Don't need to know all the technicalities.
Just ownership underneath...
And cleverness at the head.
I believe that is the direction we will be going.
It's possible that the largest crypto revolution is yet another different coin.
It could not be one other trade.
It could be something entirely different, it might not even be another blockchain.
It might be the time when your wallet realizes why you are transacting, and not just what you are transacting.
But when that occurs, the crypto wallet is not going to feel like a wallet.
It will be like your financial operating system.
An interesting question is:
Will you still be in control when AI is the brain of your wallet?
