This crypto industry leader is a Renaissance guy.
Though not an Italian city state ruler, Hoskinson possesses capital.
He co-founded Cardano, a layer 1 blockchain that challenges Ethereum, in 2017.
DefiLlama values Cardano at $12.5 billion, despite its reputation as a "zombie chain," or blockchain with limited activity compared to Ethereum or Solana.
“It’s a juggernaut that will drag this industry kicking and screaming if it has to towards solving the real-world economic, political, and social issues we all face,” Hoskinson said in June in response to blockchain skepticism.
Crypto enthusiasts still notice Hoskinson's extracurricular ventures. Hoskinson explained his diverse hobbies on a recent morning in Singapore.
“I just love solving hard problems,” he added.
Some crypto entrepreneurs have spent their wealth on colorful goods.
Gavin Wood, another Ethereum co-founder, invested in DJing.
For BitMEX's Hong Kong headquarters, co-founder Arthur Hayes bought a tank with three blacktip reef sharks. Animoca Brands chairman Yat Siu acquired a violin originally held by Russian monarch Catherine the Great.
Hoskinson, who owns a private plane and a Blackhawk chopper and has a $1.2 billion net worth, is a unique patron of far-out ventures.
“I’m friends with Steve Wolfram and all these other guys,” he continued. They always have pet issues, and when you work with them, you may make their problems yours.
