In response to Swap.ly CEO Lech Wilczynski's suggestion to embrace Satoshi Action Fund's Strategic Bitcoin Reserve approach, Mentzen reiterated his prior comments.
Wilczynski advised Poland to create a national Bitcoin reserve using The Satoshi Action Fund's open-source model because “there is no point in waiting” and that the draft law “should go first before it is too late.”
Mentzen replied, “of course,” and in later articles explained his plan to turn Poland into a “cryptocurrency haven” with supporting rules, reduced taxes, and bank and regulator backing.
“BTC to the Moon,” Mentzen said.
In his 2018 Toruń mayoral campaign, Mentzen advocated mining Bitcoin in municipal offices and schools and reusing the heat for building heating.
At the time, Bitcoin was approximately $7,000, and his concept was laughed at. Now that Bitcoin is above $100,000, he feels his suggestion was forward-thinking.
Based on this view, Mentzen advised Poland to diversify its currency reserves with Bitcoin, noting that although it may appear unusual today, it may become clear in the future.
“Polish politicians should look ahead rather than just at the past. We need not always copy others. We may finally redefine ourselves and inspire others. Writer: Poles deserve a modern state.
In July 2024, President-elect Donald Trumo pledged to create a U.S. Bitcoin reserve, echoing Mentzen. Senator Cynthia Lummis presented a five-year measure to acquire one million BTC.
Several analysts say a strategic Bitcoin reserve by the US may start a BTC arms race among sovereign states. People like Michael Saylor think it might boost demand for the main cryptocurrency.
