OmegaPro co-founder Andreas Szakacs was detained in Turkey for allegedly participating in a multibillion-dollar crypto scam. In July, Turkey detained OmegaPro co-founder Andreas Szakacs. His $4 billion bitcoin Ponzi scheme allegedly defrauded investors.

Local Turkish media reported on Aug. 22 that Szakacs duped investors by promising high profits using OmegaPro's “automated trading” algorithm, amassing their monies and locking their accounts.

Swedish citizen Szakacs, who changed his name to Emre Avci after moving to Turkey, denies the charges. Szakacs was arrested on June 28 after an anonymous tip which was confirmed by Dutch citizen Abdul Mohaghegh, who claims to represent 3,000 OmegaPro investors who lost $103 million. OmegaPro, a Dubai-based crypto and FX investment firm founded in 2019, offers clients up to 300% returns on its premium products.

OmegaPro users recall little investments that yielded fast profits. User accounts were frozen after calls for further money. The firm shut down user accounts on Nov. 7, 2022, and stopped withdrawals on Nov. 22, when FTX collapsed.
