Benefits of a society where 40% of adults owned crypto

Security.org released results in June that alarmed the crypto community. Their new study shows 40% of American people possess bitcoin, up considerably from last year. The rise appeared sustainable.

There are certain restrictions. Online surveys of 1,001 and 504 persons may misrepresent the US population. In 2023, the Federal Reserve reported 7% of US adults as crypto investors, using a larger sample. Since only Ipsos KnowledgePanel participants were recruited, their data may also be unrepresentative.

The Security.org statistic has me wondering whether it's accurate. Imagine if 40% of the world's adult population—5.75 billion people—owned bitcoin. This concept has been buzzing in my mind for months. It confuses and excites me. What I came up with.

Due to their volatility, cryptocurrencies may be risky for the underbanked. If 40% of the globe invested, volatility would certainly lessen. More individuals entering the market would improve crypto asset liquidity, making it tougher for whales to significantly impact prices.

A more widely owned and traded item has smoother price swings because major buys and sales are diluted. As adoption rates rise, cryptocurrencies may stabilize, making their value more predictable.

Traditional financial markets would be disrupted by the large investment movement. With so few individuals investing in digital assets, a lot of cash that would have gone into equities and bonds would instead go into crypt.

As investor attention is diverted, traditional markets may face liquidity issues, volatility, and value swings. Some firms may launch ICOs to replace or supplement their IPOs.

However, regulatory changes are needed for popular acceptance. There have been major advancements in this region. For instance, Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer promised crypto regulation by year's end. Global legislation protecting investors, preventing market manipulation, and encouraging innovation is probable. Policymakers must cooperate with the private sector to create frameworks that enable crypto to thrive without threatening financial stability.
